Do I need to completely uninstall GALSync Server if I want to upgrade to the latest version? Probably not. You can try copying the latest EXEs over the top of your existing ones (stop your GALSync Server Service before you do this): Can I install the Exchange Admin Tools on the same server as GALSync Server No. This generally causes a problem with GALSync Server accessing MAPI on the server. Do I need Outlook installed on the same server as GALSync Server? Yes, you need to install Outlook first and then install GALSync Server. Can I install GALSync Server on my BES server? Although GALSync Server can be installed on your BES server you might want to consider whether the extra loading during a GALSync sync might affect the performance of your BES server software. Therefore, we generally advise that GALSync Server be installed on a separate server. Can I install GALSync Server on my Exchange Server? No. GALSync Server must be installed on a different server. I have 50 BlackBerry / Windows Mobile users but I have 100 entries in my Global Address List. I want to licence all of my BlackBerry / Windows Mobile users for GALSync Server but I'm not sure whether I need a 50-user licence or a 100-user licence? You need a 50-user Entry licence. The number of entries in your Global Address List does not affect the licensing for GALSync Server, only the number of mailboxes that are to be sync'ed. I'm getting an 'Interface Not Supported' Error? This error can be caused by a number of different issues, the most common being a problem with MAPI or permissions. Try installing our GALSync Desktop product on the same computer where GALSync Server is installed. If you get an 'interface not support' error in GALSync Desktop then chances are your server doesn't have MAPI or MAPI has become corrupted. If GALSync Desktop works but GALSync Server doesn't then it's more likely to be a problem with permissions. Then try: 1. If GALSync Server worked previously try rebooting your server. 2. Do you have 'Logon With Local Profile' selected? If so, try clearing this option then stop and restart the GALSync Server service. 3. If you are configuring GALSync Server for the first time then this error could be caused by a lack of MAPI on your server. Try installing and configuring Outlook with a mailbox profile (use the admin mailbox you've configured in GALSync Server). I am trying to configure GALSync Server but my 'Address List' drop-down menu is empty? Try installing Outlook and then configuring an Exchange mailbox profile (use the admin mailbox you've configured in GALSync Server). You can also just type in the address list you want to use without having to use the drop-down menu, for example 'Global Address List'. Can I install GALSync Server on my BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) or my Exchange Server? Although GALSync Server can be installed on either your BlackBerry Enterprise Server or your Exchange Server the loading during a Sync can be quite heavy, so we would always advise you test this installation with one or two test users before you roll out to your entire user base. How many GAL entries will GALSync Server synchronize? In testing we have successfully synchronized over 15,000 entries and we have had reports of GAL address lists larger than this being successfully synchronized. However, we would always advise you to download the trial version of GALSync Server and test with your current infrastructure. My 30-day trial period has run out... GALSync Server will detect previous installations of itself and if you have exceeded the 30-day trial period since the software was first installed you may need to buy a new licence. I have a problem with uninstalling GALSync Server, how can I manually uninstall? First of all remove the GALSync Service... 1. Click Start | Run and type regedit in the Open: line. Click OK. 2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services 3. Scroll down the left pane, locate the service name (GALSync Server), right click it and select Delete. Next clean up the registry... Using regedit delete the key \\HKLM\SOFTWARE\SlipstreamSolutions.co.uk\GALSyncServer (as well as all the sub-keys and values). Now remove the files... Using Windows Explorer navigate to the folder location where you installed GALSync Server (by default C:\Program Files\Slipstream Solutions Ltd) and delete the GALSync Server folder. Finally clean up Add/Remove Programs... Use this Microsoft FAQ: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314481
Your Installation Guide tells me I need 'Service Account' permissions with my Admin mailbox. How do I set 'Service Account' permissions? For Exchange 2000: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/262054 For Exchange 2003: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/821897 For Exchange 2007: Exchange 2007 security works differently from that of Exchange Server 5.5. In fact, Exchange 2007 does not use a site service account. Instead, all services start as the local computer account. If your logon account is the Administrator account, a member of the root Domain Administrators, a member of the Enterprise Administrators groups, or a member of the Exchange Organization Administrators role, you are explicitly denied access to all mailboxes that are not your mailbox, even if you have full administrative rights over the Exchange system. All Exchange 2007 administrative tasks can be performed without having to grant an administrator sufficient rights to read other people's mail. You can achieve the results that you want in the following ways, but do so only in accordance with your organization's security and privacy policies: 1. In the Exchange Management Shell, use the following command to allow access to all mailboxes on a given mailbox store: Add-ADPermission -identity "mailbox database" -user "serviceaccount" -ExtendedRights Receive-As 2. In the Exchange Management Shell, use the following command to allow access to an individual mailbox: Add-MailboxPermission -identity "user" -user "serviceaccount" -AccessRights FullAccess Can I hide synchronised GAL Contacts from my Outlook Contacts folder? In Outlook 2000 use the following instructions:
In Outlook 2003 use the following instructions:
Can I upgrade from GALSync Desktop to GALSync Server? And if so, how much is it? Yes! And you simply pay the difference between the current cost (as listed on our website) of your existing number of licences and the licence you want to upgrade to. For example, if you have already purchased 10 GALSync Desktop licences and you want to upgrade to a Bronze (100 user) GALSync Enterprise licence you simply pay the difference between the two. Can I upgrade from one level of enterprise licence to another? Yes! And again you simply pay the difference in the current cost (as listed on our website) between the two licences. |
